South Sudan has 248 km (154 mi) of single-track 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) narrow gauge railway line from the Sudanese border to Wau terminus. There are proposed extensions from Wau to Juba. There are also plans to link Juba with the Kenyan and Ugandan railway networks.
The busiest and most developed airport in South Sudan is Juba Airport, which has regular international connections to Entebbe, Nairobi, Cairo, Addis Ababa, and Khartoum. Juba Airport is also the home base of Feeder Airlines Company and Southern Star Airlines.

Modes of transport within South Sudan:
Car hire/ Taxis – In Juba you will find a number of tour companies like Nimule travel agencies, 4×4 car hire services, offering a range of cars for hire. Please check with some of the companies we have listed here in this booklet and they will gladly help you.
Most taxis are not metered, that is why it will be useful to use the companies endorsed here for fair rates and quality services. They charge a minimum of $6 USD for the first 5 kilometers, and approximately $2 USD per kilometer thereafter. Make sure you have change, as most taxi drivers often don’t. Passengers must pay any tolls in the case of visiting parks.
Buses – We have buses that ply the Kampala/Juba route daily as well as an express bus from Nairobi to Juba which operates on a daily basis. The notable buses are Kampala coach bus service with a wider African network of routes and their services are good.
Mini Vans – These are the most type of transport around the town of Juba. They are 14 seater vans most commonly known as matatu’s, which ply most of the city’s routes. At the moment you can be able to use them around the town if you cannot afford a taxi, but not late into the night. They have green number plates; they also connect to most major towns like Bor, Nimule, Yei, Yambio etc.
Motorbikes “Boda Boda” – These open air motorized two wheelers are popular for short and quick journeys.
